Have you done your Windows 10 upgrade yet?  I know you may be resisting because, hey, your Windows 7 is working great right?  Well, I hope I can convince you that upgrading to Windows 10 is probably the right move for you.  In a nutshell, Windows 7, Windows 8 and all other versions of Windows will go offline at the end of October 2016.  What that means for you is that Microsoft will not support the older operating systems, i.e., no updates will be produced after that date.  Your computer will continue to work just as it did, but eventually you will experience problems with your browser, printer driver and other programs.   So, why do the upgrade at all?  Operationally, Windows 10 is simply a great operating system.  For example, my laptop came with Windows 7 and would boot up in 1 minute 45 seconds.  Shutdown time was 45 seconds.  Trust me: we computer geeks know these things.  After running my Windows 10 upgrade my boot time is 15 seconds and shutdown time is 2 seconds.  Execution of programs is also much faster, making computing almost instantaneous.   The Windows OS now runs at compatible speeds to most MAC systems and that is a good thing!
Now, the most practical reason not wait to do the upgrade is the cost.  Windows 10 is priced similarly to other versions of Windows at around the $120.00 price point.  However, it is being offered FREE by Microsoft until July 29, 2016.  That’s right folks, WINDOWS 10 IS FREE for only a few more short months and then you have to pay for it.  I have probably done around 300 upgrades since the option became available 2 years ago.  In the early days, there were certainly compatibility issues, mostly with HP printers, however most of those type of issues are now resolved and many of the upgrades I have done within the last 3 months have gone off with no, or minor hitches.   I usually have to run the updates again as there are even 10 updates at this point.  Also Internet Explorer (the blue E) is no longer present and has been replaced by the new browser EDGE.  I still prefer Chrome and that needs to down loaded again and likely your email program and printer drivers might need updating as well.  I do this service for about $50-$60 depending upon the issues you might encounter.
One word of advice, if you are having problems with your computer or think you might have a virus, running the upgrade might not be the best strategy and a clean install is recommended.   Contact me Kevin Sullivan at Com Link Computers in Sun Prairie if you want help with your upgrade or other computer needs.
